Initially for the first round of test sewing, the strips on the bikini bottom I used black satin ribbon, but the satin ribbon had a problem — if our fingers are dry (i.e. from the weather) it can easily get snagged and be ruined.

So I decided to use a black fabric which I know f0r sure did not stain another type doll which I collect. First, I tested the fabric out by wrapping scrap piece of the fabric around the extra dollfie bust which I have, checking for staining over night.  So far it does not appear to have a staining problem. ^o^

I also used a grey thread instead of the black thread to sew the strips for the bikini bottom, then I hand stitched in such a way that the thread does not directly touch the body of the doll. (black sewing thread I had used before was known to stain which was why I used grey thread instead)

Making dollfie dream clothing is a lot of trial and error sometimes, as I need to test fabric and thread out and make sure nothing goes wrong before I can think about selling.

And of course making and tweaking the pattern to ensure a good fit takes time too ^^; I think it took at least 5-6 tries to make sure the bikini bottom work out. Often, different fabric can yield different fit and results due to different stretch etc.

Luckily the orange fabric does not seem to stain despite the vibrant colour (knock on wood)

Hot pants are rather tight, but can be worn over the bikini bottom ^o^

Here we have Mirai Yukino chan modeling bikini top tweaked to replace the one Danny’s girl’s wearing (I heard that the snaps closure was coming loose ^^;)

Mirai’s happy to be modeling this set, tho she sternly reminded me I gotta make some for them to keep ^^;

It was thru dannychoo.com that I found out about Dollfie Dreams, I must say they’re pretty addictive ^^; A combination of cute anime faces and ideal bodies… I find that they are idea for girls, as they are rather light weight compared to resin dolls of the same size. ^^

My Mirai’s body is the Dollfie Dream Escalayer body ^^/ I personally like the regular Dollfie body, with M bust as I think they look veryslender and model like ^^

Danny had requested that the revised bikini show more of the body’s assets (which I’m sure you cannot miss…)

In this wig (and body), Mirai looks very mature, don’t you think? She’s my first Dollfie Dream afterall, I got her at the end of 2008, and she welcomed 2009 with us :)

Meow…

I’m reminded I still need to tweak the pattern of the bikini bottom ^^;

I’m glad I finally kicked my butt to finish up, and looks like it has reached Danny’s musumes safely by now ^o^

I was a bit worried when I ordered it as we were about to move around the time, but I felt like I just had to have a copy of it since my Mirai Yukino chan is on the cover (LOL) There are so many super cool rooms in it, and it’s great to see everyone’s collection of otaku goodies :) Thanks Danny for the chance to be in, even tho our room is not as impressive compared to a lot of them :3

Currently having an agreement with Danny to make clothing for his lovely girls, which keeps me pretty busy along with my illustration work with CDE. It’s a great pleasure and I am very honored that he trust my sewing work enough to commission me for them ^o^!  On a side note… anyone know how to grow extra arms? ^^;

One of the items needed in the set included a pair of pants, so I have to start from scratch – make pattern from paper and do some test sewing, adjusting it for a few times. 

I made the closure at the back to reduce bulk from doll velcro. I’ll probably look into trying out using zippers as closure either at the side or the back in future.  In picture below, in the reflection can still see a hint of the velcro peeking out when my Mirai chan change her leg position ^^;

Danny requested that I make the waist part higher as his daughters prefer to wear their tops over the pants. I’ll probably need to make the blouse a little bit longer for a better look :3 

I did not include a waist band for this version to reduce bulk around the waist. I want to make a pair of lower waist pants for my own Mirai Yukino chan when I get a chance to!

ETA: I fixed the part between her thighs a bit, it now fits better ^^ Took a couple quick pix with hub’s flash (speedlite 580EX ii) and my canon XT ^o^

Favorite pose of the lot ^^ Taking pictures by a mirror is nice, cos it feels like I have a 2nd doll ^^;

Back view… I ended up not adding the blue buttons at the back from the original sketch idea.

Before I was about to complete the set, Danny requested for a matching hairband, which I think is a fabulous idea!

I think Mirai chan is a little sad that she is not able to keep this dress, and I am running low on that particular lace, gotta try to find the same or similar lace sometime ^^;

I don’t have enough time/hands to make too many doll sewing just yet, sometimes I have a few projects here and there which is taking forever to finish ;_; but cannot resist the idea of making this particular commission! ^^;

Danny is a pleasure to work with, he allows me some free reign where the actual design is concerned! ^o^ Mirai is posing innocently in front of my shelf of neglected dolls ^^; (mostly Blythes in the background :P)

I ended up making the sleeves separately, the dress can be worn without the sleeves for a different look too ^^/!

Danny likes to see lots of oppais (bosom) ^^; and requested short skirtsu ^^;

Currently I’m keeping a handful of people waiting, with some random projects (1-2 illustrations, some doll sewing eeeck!) — I didn’t forget!!!

Even spreading this sewing project out with an actual dateline — mostly to see how fast I can finish making test pattern, figuring out some parts of the design took me about 2 weeks in between work and life, but I most likely have at least a day per week to sew around September of this year! ^^

I write again when things are more settled down or when some doll sewing for sale/auction (more likely the latter!) ^^/ Thanks again for viewing! And oh, I finally sorted out a tab for some previous tutorials, hope to add more in future! ^^/

Forgot that I had these few more pix ^^;

First make sketches of some design(s)… Get approval… Finalise some details… Certain details may change depending on the type of lace/trims used, but a basic idea is needed to start :)

 
The process usually = Start making a pattern (if it’s from scratch) with paper over half of the Dollfie’s body, draw some outlines, use tape to secure some area which needs to be tucked in etc. Cut it out, trace as a flat pattern with seam allowance, cut out the fabric pieces needed then sew an actual test item(or more)… Make some mistakes along the way (doh!), trash the mistakes, make corrections/adjustment and make a 2nd try…

Mirai feels happy when I make test stuff like this as it usually means she get something to keep if I am not 100% happy with the item :P

With this sweater I was trying out some new tags which I gotten sometime last year, but never had time to sew much so hardly thought about using them ^^; I want to give them a realistic look hence the placement :)
